SYRIA-ALEPPO-These are photos of the same places, before and after the Syrian war of the city of Aleppo, the biggest city in Syria.
ALEPPO, with an official population of 2,132,100 (2004 census), was Syria’s largest city and also one of the largest cities in the Levant before the advent of the Syrian Civil War.
Aleppo is an ancient metropolis, and one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world; it has been inhabited since perhaps as early as the 6th millennium BC
The city’s significance in history has been its location at one end of the Silk Road, which passed through central Asia and Mesopotamia.
Current Situation:Since the Battle of Aleppo started in 2012, the city has suffered massive destruction, and has been the worst-hit city in the civil war. It is currently split between the government-held west and the rebel-held east.
